Born in Orofino, raised in Sandpoint since he was 6 months old, Owen Rust is a proud Bulldog for life. After briefly pursuing college football, he quickly realized his roots were firmly planted in Sandpoint and he returned home to begin building the life and career he truly wanted. Owen went to work for his stepfather, Gary Lee, where he learned the drywall trade and developed the strong work ethic that still defines him today.

From 2009 - 2013, Owen worked in North Dakota during the oil boom operating heavy equipment and gaining valuable hands-on experience in demanding industries. While he appreciated that chapter of life, he knew his true calling was back home in North Idaho. In May 2018, he founded Rust Drywall with a vision of providing quality craftsmanship, reliability and honest services to the community he loves.

Owens reputation for integrity and grit helped him build lasting relationships with local builders and contractors, many of whom he first met through his two decades of football coaching. Owen has dedicated himself to mentoring young athletes and giving back to the community, including 10 years as the Vice President of SAFL.

In 2020, Owen married his wife, Sandra, and together they are raising their daughter, Amelia, who is an avid skier and soccer player. In 2021, Owen and Sandra purchased his Grandma and Grandpa DaVault’s home north of Sandpoint and fully remodeled it. This home transformation took the place that once served as Owens childhood safe haven and turned it into their families forever home.

Today, Owen leads Rust Drywall with the same values passed down from the men who shaped him most; his grandfather, Jim DaVault Sr., his mentor and coach, Santini Puailoa, and his stepfather, Gary Lee. Those lessons of integrity, hard work, humility and doing things the right way continue to guide his life and business every day.
